For P1-P3 students, shadowing provides an excellent opportunity to explore the field of pharmacy consulting and understand the role of a pharmacist in geriatric care across the care continuum.
What You’ll Gain as a P1-P3 Student:
Exposure to Pharmacy Consulting: Learn how a pharmacy consultant operates without dispensing medications, focusing on regulatory compliance, patient care, and team collaboration.
Insight into Age-Friendly Care: Observe how the 4Ms framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility) is applied to enhance the well-being of geriatric patients.
Introduction to Regulatory Compliance: Gain a high-level overview of how state and federal regulations influence care decisions and facility operations.

What to Expect During Your Shadowing Experience:
As a P1-P3 student, you’ll accompany Dr. Abigail Wright, a licensed pharmacist and Age-Friendly Champion, during her consulting activities. Your experience will focus on:
Observing patient chart reviews and medication regimen assessments.
Learning how to collaborate with care teams, including nursing staff and administrative leaders.
Attending team discussions on compliance strategies and care optimization.
Requirements:
Must be enrolled in a pharmacy program (P1-P3 level).
A willingness to learn and observe in a professional setting.
